The rapper is facing a $10 million lawsuit...
EMINEM’s problems continue to snowball with the news that a court date has now been set for his mother’s $10 million lawsuit.
The case will be held at Macomb County Courthouse outside Detroit on September 13.
Deborah Mathers-Briggs is suing her estranged superstar son because she claims his lyrics have damaged her reputation as a mother. She is focusing on lines like “I just found out my mother smokes more dope than I do”, on ‘My Name Is’ from ‘The Slim Shady LP’ and because in many interviews around the album’s release the rapper spoke at length about a brutal and unloved childhood.
Eminem has countered claiming his mother is profiting from his name by charging visitors to see around his original trailer park home.
Mathers-Briggs had applied to have the date brought forward claiming Eminem, currently on the road with the ‘Up In Smoke’ tour, would be in town to face trial over two weapons offences and so be in court in person.
The Detroit Free Press reports that Judge John Buff rejected the request on Monday (June 26) and stayed for a September date.
Meanwhile Eminem remains at the top of US charts. ‘The Marshall Mathers LP’ has now sold over four million copies in five weeks onsale.
The star is also hot tipped to knock Kylie Minogue off the top of the UK singles chart this Sunday (July 2) with ‘The Real Slim Shady’.
