Eminem and Rihanna take on ice bucket challenge live on stage

Duo performed together at Detroit show

Eminem and Rihanna have become the latest stars to take on the ice bucket challenge to raise awareness of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

On stage together as part of their co-headlining ‘Monster Tour’ last night (August 23), Billboard reports that the duo carried out the stunt in Eminem’s home town of Detroit to a crowd of around 45,000.

Having been nominated by his mentor Dr Dre, Eminem was reminded of the challenge by hype man Denaun “Mr” Porter as he attempted to walk off stage at the end of the show. The rapper then sat in a chair while Rihanna soaked him with ice-cold water.

Eminem quickly laid down his own challenges to Porter, producer Rick Rubin and Rihanna herself. “Detroit, what you think? Should I do it? I’m from the islands; I don’t do this ice shit! This ice shit doesn’t work for me,” asserted the singer before being doused as Eminem’s band played Vanilla Ice’s 1990 hit “Ice Ice Baby”.

ALS is a terminal illness that causes muscles to weaken and stiffen. Artists including Liam Gallagher, Arcade Fire, Kendrick Lamar, Drake, Lady Gaga, Iggy Azalea, Justin Timberlake and various others – as well as many members of the public – have joined in with the campaign.
