The Vaccines, Kings of Leon producer Ethan Johns announces solo album

'If Not Now Then When?' will be released in February 2013 following a record store tour

The producer of albums by The Vaccines, Kings of Leon and Laura Marling – Ethan Johns – is set to release his debut solo album in February 2013.

Entitled, ‘If Not Now Then When?’, the album will feature guest spots from Marling as well as another of Johns’ longterm collaborators, Ryan Adams.

Johns will issue a vinyl version of the LP in November ahead of the official release, during a tour of UK independent record stores. He will also be holding Q&A sessions at the gigs. He play a one-off headline show at St Pancras Old Church in London on October 29.

Of the tour, which takes in 18 record stores across the country, Johns said: “I’m doing this tour primarily because visiting local record stores is still one of my favourite things to do. You just don’t know what you’re going to find, whether it be an elusive album you’ve been searching for, for years, or an amazing new local band the shop assistant is playing when you walk through the door. Nothing beats it!”

The album was produced by Dom Monks, Jeremy Stacey and “whoever was in the room at the time!” and was mixed by John’s father, Glyn Johns, at Sunset Sound in Los Angeles.
