UK act for Eurovision Song Contest 2018 announced

SuRie will perform the song 'Storm' in Lisbon

The UK act for this year’s Eurovision Song Contest has been chosen.

SuRie – real name Susanna Cork – was announced as the winner of Eurovision You Decide during a live event in Brighton on Wednesday (February 7), which was broadcast on BBC Two.

SuRie beat six other shortlisted contestants to represent the UK in Lisbon during May and will perform the song ‘Storm’ at Eurovision 2018.

Cork has appeared at Eurovision on two previous occasions, as a backing dancer for Belgian act Loic Nottet in 2015 and as musical director for Belgium’s Blanche last year.

She’s a graduate from the Royal Academy of Music and has sung backing vocals for Will Young and Coldplay’s Chris Martin.

SuRie said she would celebrate her win with “a bottle of something bubbly and a straw”.

Speaking before her win, SuRie said: “My eyes were opened to the beauty of Eurovision a couple of years ago and I was working with the Belgians so false flagging for a different country but I had an amazing time. To be involved from my country, I’m a proud Brit… I’d love to be a part of Eurovision”.

The Eurovision Song Contest 2018 takes place in Lisbon, Portugal on May 12.
