Fat White Family to play huge one-off London gig

Band will headline London's O2 Academy Brixton in September

Fat White Family will headline London’s O2 Academy Brixton in September.

The band call Brixton, in south London, their home and played their first live shows as part of the Slide-In nights at The Queens Head pub there as far back as 2012. Having released new album ‘Songs For Our Mothers’ earlier this year the band will now headline their biggest gig to date on September 17.

Speaking about the Brixton gig, the band issued the following statement: “It is with joyous remorse we would like to announce a very special performance at Brixton Academy September 17, for sweet mother Brixton is on the road to well dressed irrelevance, just another open casket in a city bent on deathly formalities. Nostalgia is no substitute for community and dialogue; that being said, if we cannot prove a good example, let us be the sad reminder.”

London, O2 Academy Brixton (September 17)

Last month Wolf Alice responded to insults leveled at them by Fat White Family.

The two bands, who have toured together in the past, fell out after Fat White Family described Wolf Alice’s music as “drivel for angry nine-year-olds” in an interview. They also labeled them “irresponsible” for not speaking out politically.

Wolf Alice have hit back at the criticism with lead singer Ellie Rowsell saying: “We’re learning and adjusting all the time. And also I listened to their album and I couldn’t hear a word he was saying.”
