It’s a chemical world today…
MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE played a whirlwind two sets at today’s CARLING WEEKEND: READING AND LEEDS FESTIVALS (August 26).
The band kicked off their day with an appearance on the Main Stage at the Leeds leg of the event, before jetting down to Richfield Avenue in Reading to play in the NME/Radio 1 tent.
Speaking to NME.COM, singer Gerard Way said: “Bullet For My Valentine swapped with us in Leeds. We were not worried but we did wonder if anyone was going to be there at 11am – but it was packed. We were amazed.”
The band then boarded a private jet to make their second performance of the day.
Way explained: “IT was like when you’re a kid and you see movies about Led Zeppelin – but Led Zeppelin can keep the jet actually. We were scared we like big planes.”
He added: “Reading and Leeds is one of those dreams from when you’re a kid and you see footage of Nirvana and you think ‘Whoa – that must be the craziest thing in the world.’ Then you do it and it is the craziest thing.”
Way was quick to praise the crowd at both sites, which saw the Reading audience drowning out the band singing along to ’Helena’.
He said: “The people today made the shows. That’s the way our shows are now – it’s the fans that make them. The crowd singing on ’Helena’ were louder than the PA.”
Tonight at the Carling Weekend: Reading Festival will see Kasabian headline the NME/Radio 1 Stage.
