Roddy Woomble was taken ill with severe food poisoning on the flight home from the band's recent exhaustive US tour...
IDLEWILD singer RODDY WOOMBLE had to spend last week recuperating for the band’s GLASTONBURY performance tonight (June 27) after falling foul of a mysterious stomach bug on their recent US tour.
Woomble took ill on the band’s flight back from America last weekend, and started vomiting violently on the flight. He was so sick he was unable to make the band’s subsequent connecting flight from London to Edinburgh to play a benefit gig with Travis for the Concern humanitarian aid charity last Sunday (June 22).
Speaking backstage ahead of their appearance on the Other Stage tonight, guitarist Rod Jones told NME.COM that Roddy was severely ill, and was forced to spend the week recovering so that he would be well enough for their Glasto fixture.
“We’re not sure what it was, but we think he had really severe food poisoning,” he said. “He couldn’t stop being sick. But he’s loads better now, and we’re looking forward to the show tonight, it’s going to be fun. I love Glastonbury.”
He added that the band were “pretty tired” following their exhaustive US tour, supporting Pearl Jam and doing their own headline shows. “America was fun, we played to a lot of people. It went really well, we were selling out these clubs, and people were really enthusiastic about the band,” he added. “But it’s nice to be home.”
Idlewild are also lined up to play the T In The Park and Move festivals this summer.
