The track will feature on the band's debut EP, 'Scout'
Calpurnia have released an animated video for their new song, ‘Louie’.
Like ‘City Boy’, ‘Louie’ will appear on the four-piece’s debut EP, ‘Scout’, due for release on June 15 via Paradyse/Transgressive. It was produced by Twin Peaks‘ Cadien Lake James.
In a press release, guitarist Ayla Tesler-Mabe said of the song: “‘Louie’ is the lively and colourful product of a studio transformation. This track features [Twin Peaks’] Colin Croom on piano, with himself and Cadien Lake James contributing the choir-boy harmonies and backing vocals that come in as the song builds. It was definitely the intention to record a song that sounded as live as possible, and we sincerely hope that this energy comes through to the listener when you listen to this track.”
She added that the lyrics were written “from the perspective of a guy who always leaves his partner”. “Though she does everything she can to hold down the fort at home, he never shows up,” Tesler-Mabe explained. “The guitar solo is meant to convey the longing she feels for him to come home, and the loneliness she feels without him at her side.”
The track listing for ‘Scout’ is as follows:
Calpurnia played their first big show in January at New York’s Rough Trade. They are set to perform two sold-out shows in Atlanta and LA this summer.
