FIVE – STARS!

The bad boys of pop take on Ronan...

Five forced the partial closure of the LONDON PICCADILLY VIRGIN MEGASTORE this afternoon (July 24) when hundreds of screaming female fans swarmed the store when they turned up for in a signing session.

The band were at the store on Piccadilly Circus to sign copies of their special edition album, ‘Invincible’, which now features the band’s current number one single ‘We Will Rock You’.

Fans began queuing to meet the band at approximately 1pm – over three hours before they were due to meet fans, and Virgin bosses closed the entire basement of the store to allow fans enough space to queue.

Despite the legions of ardent fans waiting to see the band, Five member Scott coolly assured nme.com that they are old hands at dealing with the adulation. He said: “We’re not allowed to go over there yet (in view of the fans) because yesterday we did a gig in Hyde Park and we were standing on this fence and looking over, and the whole audience came over to the fence and started banging – security got quite annoyed with us!”

One fan, Sarah Evans, who was waiting to see the band, told nme.com: “It’s baking down here, we’re so hot! We’ve been here since 1.30pm but they’re well worth it – we’d queue for nobody else though! We love Five because they’ve always got time for their fans!”

Speaking to nme.com after the high-pitched signing, Five members Scott and Abs spoke about the chart rivalry with Ronan Keating, who they toppled from the Number One spot yesterday (July 23) and their feelings for their nme.com-reading fans!
