Flight Of The Conchords’ Bret McKenzie will not perform at Oscars ceremony

The New Zealander has been nominated for 'The Muppets' song 'Man Or Muppet'

Bret McKenzie of Flight Of The Conchords will not be performing at this Sunday’s (February 26) Academy Awards, despite being nominated in the Best Original Song category.

He penned ‘Man Or Muppet’ which features in The Muppets and is up against only one other track in the category, ‘Real In Rio’ from the film Rio.

LA Times reports that neither track will be performed live at the ceremony in Hollywood, but instead, the viewers will hear “new compositions and arrangements” from a collaboration between hip hop producer and artist Pharrell Williams and film composer Hans Zimmer.

The two have worked together on the interstitial music for the television broadcast of the 84th Academy Awards. Of the project Williams said: “I hadn’t seen sheet music in 20 years. When I sat down at a piano and had to sight-read, I felt like I was back in high school… But they let me learn on the job and walk around and ask questions. The only thing I know how to do is feel, and a composer has to know what sound will elicit that feeling.”
