Helping Haiti single holds on to Number One spot

Charity song beats off competition from Dizzee Rascal and Florence And The Machine

Helping Haiti has beaten off competition from Dizzee Rascal and Florence And The Machine to remain at Number One in the UK Singles Chart for a second week.

‘Everybody Hurts’ stays at the top just ahead of ‘You Got The Dirtee Love’, which was debuted at the Brit Awards 2010 last week.

Dizzee and Florence And The Machine‘s track went on sale following their performance of the same song at the ceremony on Tuesday night (February 16).

It is the first time in it’s history that audience members and viewers watching live on ITV1 have had the chance to download a souvenir of the show.

A donation is being made to the Brit Trust from every sale of the single until March 18, 2010.

Elsewhere in the singles chart The Courteeners‘ comeback single ‘You Overdid It Doll’ went in at 28.

In the UK album chart, ‘Glee: The Music Volume 1’ went straight in at Number One, after a month in which numerous tracks from the E4/Channel 4 series have dominated the singles chart too, according to the Official Charts Company.

‘Don’t Stop Believin’ by the cast of the series also stays at Number Seven in the singles chart, while ‘Halo/Walking On Sunshine’ is at nine and ‘It’s My Life/Confessions Part II’ is at 20.

Following the Brits Lady Gaga‘s ‘The Fame’ rose to Number Two and Florence And The Machine‘s Lungs went up to Three in the album chart with sales of both albums increasing by 53%.

Among the other biggest beneficiaries were Robbie Williams‘s ‘Reality Killed The Video Star’ which went from 21 to Eight, Jay-Z‘s ‘The Blueprint 3’, which moved from 22 to 10, Lily Allen‘s ‘It’s Not Me, It’s You’, which went from 28 to 19 and Kasabian‘s ‘West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum’, which shot from 63 to 20.
