Nabil-directed video was shot entirely using GoPro cameras
Foals have revealed an interactive video for new single ‘Mountain At My Gates’.
The video is directed by Nabil (Frank Ocean, Kanye West) and was filmed using GoPro cameras. The band and director partnered with GoPro and used their spherical Virtual Reality technology for the interactive video.
To get the best results from the immersive video, which sees the band perform their song live while interacting with the viewer, it is advised that Google Chrome or the YouTube app is used. When accessed via Google Chrome, viewers can interact with the content with the use of a mouse or the A/W/S/D keys.
‘Mountain At My Gates’ is the second single from upcoming album ‘What Went Down’, due for release on August 28. Nabil, who has also directed videos for Frank Ocean and Kanye West, was behind the videos for two singles from previous Foals album ‘Holy Fire’, ‘Bad Habit’ and ‘Late Night’.
Speaking to NME about the track, frontman Yannis Phillipakis said “I’d recorded the beginning riff on my phone ages ago. At the beginning it had a baggy feel, but became less so with more work. The central image – ‘I see a mountain at my gates’ was from me getting more interested in seeing what would come out lyrically where there wasn’t a pre-conceived idea. Normally I write voraciously in books and journals, then harvest a lot of that for the record. This, though, came out instantaneously in the room.”
The LP was recorded in the south of France with Simian Mobile Disco’s James Ford (Arctic Monkeys, Klaxons, Mumford & Sons).
