Foo Fighters reportedly recording new album in 12 different cities around the world

Frontman Dave Grohl is reported to have disclosed plan to a fan in Chicago

Foo Fighters are reportedly recording their new album in 12 different recording studios around the world.

The band recently revealed that the sessions for their new album are “fucking on” and posted a picture of a row of master tapes labelled ‘Foo Fighters LP 8’ to their official Instagram.

An Australian fan now living in Chicago has revealed the unique plan to make the album around the world after bumping into Dave Grohl and producer Butch Vig in a local bar. “They’ve recorded the [new album] in about 12 different cities and they wanted to work with the producer Steve Albini, who owns the studio [in Chicago],” said the fan, known only as Wes, in an interview with Triple M.

“He’s been recording with Butch Vig and Steve Albini at Electrical Audio, using a never-previously-used recording technique that’s unique to this analogue studio.”

Speaking about the album at the end of 2013, frontman Dave Grohl said: “We’re doing something that nobody knows about, it’s fucking rad. We begin recording soon, but we’re doing it in a way that no-one’s done before and we’re writing the album in a way that I don’t think has been done before.”

Foo Fighters will headline a special gig next month in the run-up to February’s Super Bowl. Imagine Dragons, The Roots and Fall Out Boy will also perform at the event, which will be sponsored by the Bud Light Hotel, and will take place at New York’s Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum. Foo Fighters will team up with the Zac Brown Band for the February 1 gig. Dave Grohl recently worked on the country band’s latest EP.

Foo Fighters recently made their live return, performing in Mexico on December 11, 2013. During the concert, the band covered songs by The Beatles, Pink Floyd and Tom Petty.
