Dave Grohl joins the list of celebrities raising awarness of terminal illness Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis
Foo Fighters have joined the list of figures from the music world to pour buckets of ice water over themselves as part of a charity stunt – watch footage of it below.
The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge aims to raise awareness of ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), a terminal illness which causes muscles to weaken and stiffen.
Drake, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift and Justin Timberlake have all taken part in the challenge in the last few weeks, however Dave Grohl et al have taken the stunt to a new level – paying homage to the bucket of blood prom scene in horror film [i[Carrie[/i].
Grohl plays Carrie in full prom queen regalia, while drummer Taylor Hawkins plays her date Tommy. Fellow Foo Fighters Pat Smear and Nate Mendel play the two students who drop the bucket of pigs’ blood onto Carrie’s head.
Numerous celebrities and musicians have already taken part in the challenge, which started after Pete Frates, a former Boston College basketball player, was forced to stop playing after developing ALS. He challenged his teammates and players from Boston Red Sox to brave the icy waters to help raise money for research into a cure. Since then, the stunt has rapidly spread over Twitter and elsewhere, using the hashtag #ALSIceBucketChallenge.
Grohl nominated Stephen King, author of the original Carrie book, John Travolta, one of the stars of the 1976 film, and Jack Black to take part in the challenge next.
Last week, Foo Fighters announced that their new album, ‘Sonic Highways’, will be released on November 10.
