THIS IS A CALL…FOR GUEST STARS!

And there are a couple of real surprises...

FOO

FIGHTERS have lined up a host of guest collaborators for their forthcoming double album.

The band are currently holed up in the studio putting the finishing touches to the follow-up to 2002’s ‘One By One’, which will be divided into a ‘heavy’ disc and a ‘mellow’ one.

But according to MTV, as well as the hardly surprising Josh Homme, guest stars on the as-yet-untitled record include John Paul Jones from Led Zeppelin and Norah Jones.

Guitarist Chris Shiflett posted on the band’s official website: “We’re all pretty stoked on how it sounds, and everyone’s amped to get back on the road and try it live. We started tracking the rock stuff first, then moved on to the mellow shit, which is almost done, and now we’re back to the rock.

“None other than John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin fame came by to play some Mellotron, piano and mandolin on a few tracks. Of course, we managed to sneak in a few Led Zeppelin trivia questions and he even riffed ‘Kashmir’ on the Mellotron for a minute. We had yet another special guest in the studio yesterday. None other than Norah Jones! Hew song is on the ‘mellow’ disc and it’s got a really cool Elvis Costello vibe to it. Her voice is beautiful and fits the song really nice.”

It’s been a busy year of guesting on each other’s records for the US rock elite. Foos frontman Dave Grohl pops up on new albums by Nine Inch Nails and Garbage, while Garbage‘s

Shirley Manson sings backing vocals on a new [a][/a] track alongside Brody Dalle from The

Distillers.
