Franz Ferdinand named Best Live Band

The band win at ShockWaves NME Awards 2006

Franz Ferdinand have been crowned Best Live Band at the ShockWaves NME Awards 2006.

The band have beaten off stiff competition from Oasis, Arctic Monkeys, Green Day and Kaiser Chiefs at the ceremony in central London.

It’s been a great year for the band – over the last 12 months they’ve toured the world, including their biggest ever dates and a record-breaking residency at London Alexandra Palace.

In fact, the band were unable to be at the ceremony in person because of their live commitments – throughout February the band are on the road playing their first ever dates in South America, headlining as well as supporting U2.

After being announced by New Order’s Peter Hook, the band played a special video for NME readers presented by Iggy Pop, where they thanked fans for their support.

Hook then gave the award to Kaiser Chiefs, who in turn gave it to The Cribs!
