FRANZ FERDINAND are to play for a UNITED NATIONS sponsored concert at LONDON’s ROYAL ALBERT HALL on December 8 to benefit the people of SUDAN’s DAFUR province.

The band will be joined on the bill by The Pretenders’ Chrissie Hynde and Simply Red’s Mick Hucknall.

The UN High Commissioner for Refugees said that the Refugee Voices For Dafur concert would feature singers accompanied by the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra performing the songs of Cole Porter.

According to Billboard, Franz Ferdinand will play via video link from Mexico City in the midst of a brief North American tour.

Other acts set to appear include US soprano Barbara Hendricks, Jocelyn Brown, Andrew Coleman and Lemar.

Proceeds from the event will aid refugees in Dafur, who have been forced to flee their homes during the 21 months of violence.
