The band curate an arena at the Isle Of Wight bash

Friendly Fires have told NME, backstage at Bestival today (September 9), all about working with SBTRKT on a limited-edition seven-inch.

The band are curating the RizLab arena, putting on the likes of Frankie Knuckles, A Guy Called Gerald, Lone and Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, as well as SBTRKT, to celebrate the ‘Past, Present And Future Of Dance Music’.

Speaking backstage, singer Ed Macfarlane said: “SBTRKT is supporting us on our next tour and it just felt totally right, probably my favourite record of the year, a dance act with a pop sensibility which is what we’re about.

“As soon as we get back from Bestival we’re going into the studio with SBTRKT to work on a song we’ve started. It’s hopefully going to be a limited seven-inch that’s available only on our tour.”

He added: “We’re just going to see how it goes, it’s great to be able to rehearse with SBTRKT as it’s really interesting to see different people’s work ethics and how they are in the studio.”

The St Albans trio are overseeing the stage all day and Ed might even join Lone onstage during his set.

Pendulum, Magnetic Man, Chromeo and Public Enemy are all set to play the Main Stage at the festival later today.
