HARRISON TRIBUTES FLOW IN

The Queen and Tony Blair offer their thoughts...

Figures from both inside and outside the music industry, including THE QUEEN and TONY BLAIR, continue to pay tribute to the late GEORGE HARRISON.

Following the confirmation of Harrison’s death from cancer earlier today, many musicians have expressed their sorrow and sadness at the loss.

The Queen has issued a statement saying that she was “very sad” to hear the news, while British Prime Minister Tony Blair described Harrison as a “great musician and artist”.

He said: “The music and the personalities of the [Beatles] were the background of our lives. I think people will be very sad at his death.

“He was not only a great musician and artist, but he did an immense amount for charity as well, and so he will be very, very sadly missed by people right round the world.”

Beatles producer Sir George Martin added: “(Wife) Olivia and (son) Dhani have borne his illness with enormous courage and devotion. Now I believe, as he did, that he has entered a higher state. God give him peace.”

NME.COM has opened a tribute messageboard for fans who would like to leave messages of condolence.
