George Michael denies ‘highly inaccurate’ reports he went to rehab for crack cocaine addiction

Tabloid reports quoted a family member expressing fears for the singer

A spokesperson for George Michael has officially denied tabloid reports that he checked into rehab to battle a crack cocaine addiction.

The pop singer was reported to have checked into a £190,000 a month Swiss rehab facility as his family feared for his life.

Jackie Georgiou, the wife of the star’s cousin, Andros, originally told The Sun: “He was smoking crack. He was going to end up locked up or dead. I’m petrified he will die.”

However, Michael denies these suggestions and has issued the following statement to the press:

“Whilst it is our general policy not to comment on private matters, we would in this instance note that these highly inaccurate stories have been apparently provided to the press by the wife of a very distant family member, neither of whom has had any dealings with him for many many years.

“It is therefore unsurprising that they are so incorrect. Beyond this we have no further comment to make as the matter is now in the hands of Mr Michael’s lawyers.”

Last year, George Michael was taken to hospital after collapsing at home. A 999 call was made by a friend of the singer and two ambulances arrived at his north London home.

The singer also made headlines in 2013 when he was airlifted to hospital after apparently falling from his car on the M1 motorway. An eyewitness said that Michael had fallen from his vehicle after trying to close the car door while the vehicle was in motion.

George Michael’s most recent release was his first-ever live album, titled ‘Symphonica’, which was released in March 2014.
