Thefts up as muddy Glastonbury kicks off

Crime is so far up six times on 2007

This year’s Glastonbury festival has so far seen a substantial rise in thefts compared to last year.

Police revealed that this year’s event has so far seen 127 thefts, while 2007’s festival had only suffered 19 by Friday morning (June 27).

A spokesperson told BBC News that the rise in thefts can likely be traced directly to yesterday’s (June 26) warm conditions. There have, however, been fewer drug arrests so far this year.

Last night saw showers hit the festival site, and further rain has been forecast for today.
