Shirley Bassey confirmed for Glastonbury

Michael Eavis announces acts for 2007

Dame Shirley Bassey has been confirmed for this year’s Glastonbury Festival, organiser Michael Eavis has said.

The singer, best known for her rendition of the James Bond theme tune ’Goldfinger’, will appear onstage on the Sunday (June 24).

Eavis also said that Damien Rice would headline the acoustic stage with The Waterboys, reports BBC News.

As previously reported, Glastonbury Festival was granted a licence yesterday (March 27) by Mendip Council. This will allow the festival to expand from its previous capacity of 150,000. Around 22,000 extra coach-package tickets will be sold.

These conditions were agreed on, under the proviso that festival organisers must meet certain conditions, such as holding at least three public meetings with Pilton Parish Council before the event and one afterwards.

Arctic Monkeys, The Killers and The Who are set to headline the festival, which takes place between June 24- 26.

Almost 400,000 fans have registered for tickets, which go on sale on Sunday (April 1) at 9am.
