Glastonbury founder Michael Eavis to speak at Oxford Union

He will talk at the debating society on October 30 and discuss the festival

Michael Eavis is set to speak at the Oxford Union tomorrow (October 30) evening.

The founder of Glastonbury Festival will be appearing at the prestigious university’s debating society at 6pm to talk to students about the festival. When Eavis spoke at the Union in February 2004, he confirmed Paul McCartney‘s headline festival slot for later that year.

A host of music industry stars have appeared at the Union in the past, including musician John Mayer, who spoke there last week about his own education at Berklee College of Music in Boston. He told the audience: “I started ditching class to write songs. I remember thinking, I don’t need the instructions anymore.”

Courtney Love, ‘Gangnam Style’ singer Psy, Tinie Tempah, Dizzee Rascal, Patrick Wolf and Carl Barat have all spoken at the Oxford Union in recent years.

Meanwhile, Michael Eavis’ daughter Emily recently said that she is close to confirming the names of the first two headliners for Glastonbury 2014. Speaking to NME, she said she is near to securing the first two headline acts and has “a few options” for the final spot, commenting: “We’re definitely getting close to securing two and there are a few options for the third. It’s annoying really as there are lots of great bands touring next year and we’d love to have them all. But rest assured, it’s going to be one hell of a show – maybe even the best yet!”

Bookmakers have been taking odds on the likes of Fleetwood Mac, Prince and David Bowie to take the headline slots in 2014. Foo Fighters are currently favourites to fill the coveted Saturday night Pyramid Stage slot, whilst rumours of a ‘Definitely Maybe’ 20th anniversary reunion have given Oasis odds of 10/1 to make an appearance.
