Cartoon outfit celebrate greatest hits release at London's 100 Club

Damon Albarn made a surprise appearance with De La Soul in London last night (December 1) during a one-off show with Gorillaz Sound System.

The singer appeared onstage at the 100 Club behind a giant curtain featuring images of the Gorillaz cartoon characters 2-D and Murdoc for a rendition of ‘Feel Good Inc’. Scroll down and click below to watch fan footage from the performance.

The gig was a spin-off of the main cartoon outfit featuring the band’s music remixed to visual effects.

Among the tracks which featured in the set were reworkings of the band’s singles ‘Clint Eastwood’, ‘Dirty Harry’, ‘DARE’ and ‘Stylo’.

Gorillaz Sound System also threw in a remix of Michael Jackson‘s ‘Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough’ before Albarn made his surprise entrance.

The Blur frontman’s performance got off to stuttering start though, forcing the group to restart the track.

“In our defence we have just walked here onstage and we didn’t know how this was going to be played,” Albarn told the crowd.

The one-off show was held to celebrate the release of Gorillaz‘s 10th anniversary ‘The Singles Collection: 2001-2011’, which came out earlier this week.

The show was also staged in conjunction with Converse shoes, who are working with the band on a new collection of footwear featuring a heel tab by Gorillaz‘s design guru Jamie Hewlett and a new track for the company’s ‘Three Artists. One Song’ series.

Gorillaz Sound System played:

‘Clint Eastwood’
‘Dirty Harry’
‘Stylo’
‘Doncamatic’
‘DARE’
‘On Melancholy Hill’
‘Last Living Souls’
‘Superfast Jellyfish’
‘Feel Good Inc’
