Jett joins the Green Day frontman for a medley of 'American Idiot' and 'Bad Reputation'
Armstrong performed shortly after the premiere of his new movie Geezer at the Tribeca Film Festival on Saturday (April 23), backed by Green Day’s Tré Cool on drums and New York musician Jesse Malin on rhythm guitar.
Armstrong opened with ‘Devil’s Kind’, one of several songs he has written for the film, in which he plays a former punk rocker still struggling to adjust to everyday life 10 years after his band broke up.
He then played Green Day’s ‘Scattered’ before Jett joined him for a brief burst of ‘American Idiot’ which segued into her classic 1980 hit ‘Bad Reputation’. Watch fan-shot footage of their live collaboration below.
Armstrong concluded his set with another song he has written for the film, ‘Ordinary World’. According to Billboard, he told the crowd jokingly during the performance that “Mike’s gonna be pissed”, referring to Green Day bassist Mike Dimt, who was absent from the mini-gig.
Geezer marks Armstrong’s first lead acting role and features a cameo appearance from Jett. Armstrong’s co-stars in the New York-set comedy-drama include Selma Blair, Judy Greer, Fred Armisen and Chris Messina.
