The pair play 'Don't Abuse Me' from Jett's 1980 album 'Bad Reputation'
Joan Jett was honoured on the night with an award for ‘Rocker of the Year’, later taking to the stage with Armstrong to perform ‘Don’t Abuse Me’ from her 1980 album ‘Bad Reputation’. Watch footage of that beneath.
The event – which raised money for music education and music-related schemes in America’s public schools – also saw live performances from Alice Cooper, Brody Dalle, Bikini Kill’s Kathleen Hanna teaming up with Beastie Boys’ Ad-Rock, and more.
Green Day released their latest album ‘¡Tré!’ in 2012, with the compilation ‘Demolicious’ coming earlier this year. 2014 also saw the 20-year anniversary of their classic record ‘Dookie’, read NME’s feature on ’10 Albums That Wouldn’t Exist Without ‘Dookie’’.
Last year, the band said they’d be “taking a break” following their Australian tour. “We’re going to take a break. We haven’t really been doing much. So it’s just nice to kind of do some other things, y’know, when we get ready to do Green Day again, our batteries will be charged,” Armstrong said at the time.
