Artist met the popular Canadian PM backstage at a charity concert
Grimes and her camp got to meet Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Sunday night (September 18).
The Vancouver-born artist met Trudeau backstage at the Bell Centre in Montreal, after performing at the Global Citizen concert aimed at combatting aids, malaria and tuberculosis. Usher & The Roots, Metric, Half Moon Run and Charlotte Cardin also performed at the large charity concert.
Sharing a picture of their meeting on Instagram, Grimes wrote: “grimes team got 2 meet pm Trudeau! thanks global citizen for inviting us to participate and thanks to the people of montreal who took action in the fight against aids and malaria and came to the show.”

Last year Grimes told fans that she was backing anyone but Stephen Harper – whom Trudeau replaced as Prime Minister – to win the Canadian election. “Getting anyone besides Conservatives/Harper into power is a priority number one,” she said. “The environment and the missing murdered indigenous women are some of the most important issues for me.”
“Our land and the welfare of our people is at stake: be active. vote. speak,” she added. “Harper is evil.”
Conservative Harper had been Canadian Prime Minister since 2006, but Trudeau – leader of the country’s Liberal Party – replaced him with a comfortable victory in the 2015 federal election.
