For 30 minutes, he was planning on becoming known as 'Guwop' - before his fans revolted
Rapper Gucci Mane announced that he was changing his name on Twitter earlier today (March 4) – but then declared that he was reverting back to Gucci Mane just 30 minutes later.
Mane, whose real name is Radric Davis, started off his day by informing his followers that he had decided to plump for a new identity and would go under a new alias on July 2. “I’m officially changing my rap name to Guwop and retiring the great Gucci Mane,” he wrote according to Buzzfeed. “Thanks fans, for eight years as Gucci now it’s Wop turn.”
Sadly for the rapper, who released his most recent studio album ‘The Appeal: Georgia’s Most Wanted’ in 2010, his fanbase seemed none-too-taken with the new name. “Im not gonna call you Guwop dumbass, just so you know,” wrote @iStoleFreeHugs, while @fivefifths simply responded: “Shut the fuck up son”.
