Murray Lightburn from The Dears has slammed Hard-Fi’s cover of The White Stripes‘ ‘Seven Nation Army’.
Speaking exclusively on the NME Podcast recorded at last weekend’s V Festival (August 19-20), the frontman branded the cover as “just wrong”.
Lightburn said: “Covering that White Stripes song in a really horrible way, it’s just not right.”
The Canadian also criticised the frequency with which the Staines band perform their cover, saying: “It’s like ‘Groundhog Day’ right now, I honestly can’t believe how long this has gone on, or that this is justifiable in any way.
“I mean I don’t even know these guys and I don’t want to be one of those guys who is slagging a band. I’m sure they’re a fine band, but this is just wrong.”
