TABLOIDS ARE HOMOPHOBIC – IT’S PURE AND SIMPLE!

A survey of Hear'say fans on gay fansite Queersay finds that over two thirds find the tabloid coverage to be "verging on homophobic"...

A new survey shows that fans of HEAR’SAY’s NOEL SULLIVAN have spoken out against tabloid coverage of his private life.

Support for the singer is growing, with UK tabloid The News Of The World reported to have run into trouble over printing photographs of Sullivanand a male friend.

Asked whether tabloid coverage of Noel’s sexuality had been fair, unfair, or verging on homophobic, only four per cent of the 4,000 fans polled voted for fair, while 67 per cent felt that the coverage had been verging on homophobic. The survey, on gay fansite Queersay, also asked users whether they thought Noel himself was gay. The majority (58 per cent) of voters believe Noel to be straight, though, in another category, only

one per cent think Noel will be married in ten years.

On Noel’s long-term prospects, the survey reveals that his fans think that a decade from now Noel is most likely to be working as a solo artist. Four per cent of voters thought Noel would be “back with his puppets in Ibiza”.

This news of fans’ reaction to Noel’s treatment at the hands of the tabloids comes as today’s Guardian reports that UK Sunday paper The News Of The World “is again being forced to justify its blatant intrusions into the personal lives of public and private figures”. A fortnight ago the paper ran pictures of Noel and a male friend kissing.

According to The Guardian today (April 30), Noel’s friend is claiming that publishing the pictures was “a clear breach of his privacy”.
