A RIDGELEY TOO FAR!

The 'Popstars' band are following in the footsteps of their New Zealand counterparts...

HEAR’SAY are to follow in the ill-fated footsteps of their New Zealand counterparts TRUEBLISS in covering a song by 80s pop legends WHAM!.

When the New Zealand ‘Popstars’ band – the first in a long line that has since seen docupopsters launch in Australia, Canada, America, Germany and

Norway – released a cover of Wham!‘s ‘Freedom’last year, they failed to make the Top 50 and were later dropped by their record label.

Now Hear’say have recorded a yet-to-be-confirmed Wham! track for an ITV show.

According to reports on the web, ’80s Mania’ which will feature a string of stars from the 80s to the present day, is the latest instalment in a series of TV/pop tie-ins that has so far seen the Bee Gees, Abba and Motown having their back catalogues plundered. Also confirmed for the

show are ‘STARStreet’ band AllSTARS performing Duran Duran‘s ‘The Reflex’ and Midge Ure reviving his Ultravox hit ‘Vienna’.

The show will be presented by Anita Dobson and Leslie Grantham, who found fame in the 80s as the central characters in BBC’s ‘EastEnders’, and appears to have replaced a planned celebration of music by The Carpenters.
