The most arrogant man on telly may yet scoop a record deal. Plus, we have his X-rated version of '...Baby One More Time' for your delectation...
DARIUS DANESH – the ‘POPSTARS’ flop who was dropped from the TV talent contest that has gripped the UK – is reportedly being hunted by major record label POLYDOR.
According to the Daily Record in Scotland today (January 30), a record producer called the newspaper trying to track down the Glasgow student, whose arrogant attitude and particularly his over-the-top reworking of Britney Spears’ ‘…Baby One More Time’ lost him his position within the ranks of hopefuls on the ‘Popstars’ show on ITV on Saturday night (January 27).
NME.COM has an interview with Darius and his hilarious “alternative” version – the X-rated rendition that won’t be seen on TV – of the Spears song.
The paper reports that Polydor have been auditioning for an all-Scottish boy band to emulate the success of Irish exports Boyzone and Westlife. The producer setting up the auditions, Iain MacDonald of Lemon Groove Records, said: “We are thinking about doing another set of auditions. Darius is certainly of interest to us. We’d like to get in contact with him.” Polydor were unable to verify the story this morning.
In his video interview, he tells NME.COM: “I knew I wasn’t going to get into it, it wasn’t right for me. It wasn’t really what I wanted. I tried to pretend for a while that it was, tried very hard to fit in. Tried to show the cameras that I had the ability to conform to that idea. But I know deep down that if I had got in, I would have wanted to break out… I feel already that the industry needs to move on. I feel almost a sense of relief and certainly a sense of gratitude,” he said.
