Are Hot Chip set to return with a new album?

Alexis Taylor posts clip from the studio

Fans are speculating that Hot Chip could be working on a new album after frontman Alexis Taylor posted a video from the studio.

Hot Chip last released an album in 2015 with ‘Why Make Sense?’. Their next record would be their seventh since forming in 2000.

Earlier this week, Taylor shared a short clip of bandmate (and LCD Soundsystem member) Al Doyle playing guitar. Scroll below to watch that.

“I’m really hoping this means what I hope it means,” one fan commented, while another speculated: “New for album for 2018?! OMG I’m so excited”.

Since the release of their last album, Alexis Taylor has released a solo album in the form of 2016’s ‘Piano’, followed by companion record ‘Listen With(out) Piano’ in 2017.

Last year, both Taylor and bandmate Joe Goddard were credited on ‘Into Me You See’, the closing track to Katy Perry‘s ‘Witness’ album.

In 2015, Hot Chip spoke to NME about their ‘Why Make Sense?’ album and touched upon the EDM phenomenon.

“This modern dance music that’s enjoyed by thousands of people, it’s basically Mumford & Sons or Coldplay music but with a trance beat,” Goddard said.

“What I’m interested in is the old, clichéd idea of house music, which basically works best with a few hundred people and no lights. No staring at the stage and it all being about a spectacle.”
