Hurts instigate chart battle with Taio Cruz during V Festival set

Manchester band say they're aiming for the upper reaches of next week's charts

Hurts used their V Festival set in Stafford today (August 22) to try and begin a chart battle with Taio Cruz this week.

Both acts release new singles tomorrow, and the Manchester newcomers urged fans to get them to the top of the charts next Sunday several times during their Nissan Juke Arena performance.

Ahead of playing new single ‘Wonderful Life’, singer Theo Hutchcraft said: “We’re releasing this song as our next single and we need you all to go out and buy it.”

He later drew cheers from the sizable crowd by adding: “We need to beat Taio Cruz in the charts!” Cruz releases ‘Dynamite’ tomorrow.

Elsewhere in their set, Hutchcraft said he was relieved to be playing a show in the north of England again.

“It’s good to be back in the north,” he quipped, before stating, “they don’t know what a chip butty is down south.”

Hurts played:

‘Silver Lining’
‘Wonderful Life’
‘Sunday’
‘Stay’
‘Illuminated’
‘Better Than Love’
