Versus Cancer gig launches new talent contest

Manchester charity concert Versus Cancer have announced an unsigned band competition ahead of this year’s big gig on March 30.

As previously reported, the event raises funs and awareness for cancer research in the city, and will feature the likes of Ian Brown, The Charlatans and Echo And The Bunnymen at the MEN Arena in the city this year.

A new band will be able to join this year’s line-up by sending in their demos to to Clint Boon at XFM Manchester.

Boon will play the best unsigned tracks during his show, giving listeners the chance to vote for their favourites.

The competition will culminate at the end of February with a panel of industry experts, including legendary Hacienda DJ Mike Pickering, selecting the winners.

Speaking of the opportunity this competition will offer young musicians, former bassist with The Smiths and Versus Cancer organiser Andy Rourke explained: “This really is a quality competition and could give an unsigned band the platform they need to get noticed. It’s going to be an unforgettable night, especially for the winner.”
