Idlewild to go on ‘hiatus’ following UK and Ireland tour

Roddy Woomble says band will 'take a break'

Idlewild will go on ‘hiatus’ following their current UK and Ireland tour.

The Scottish band are due to finish their gig run at the Dunfermline Velocity venue on May 1, with frontman Roddy Woomble telling fans through the band’s official Facebook page that due to their waning popularity, the group were set to step away form the music scene.

“At the end of this final part of the tour we will have played 40 gigs around the UK and Ireland in support of [new album] ‘Post Electric Blues’, which seems more than enough for some time,” he wrote.

He added: “There isn’t the demand for our music that there was in the past, especially not outside of Britain, so it seems after this year it’s an appropriate time to take a break, a ‘hiatus’ or whatever you want to call it.”

‘Post Electric Blues’ was Idlewild‘s sixth studio album and was released physically in October last year. They released their full-length debut album, ‘Hope Is Important’, in 1999.
