Ex-Iggy Pop drummer Alex Kirst dies in hit-and-run

He also drummed in The Nymphs

Iggy Pop‘s former drummer Alex Kirst has been killed in a hit-and-run accident in California.

Kirst, who was 47, was struck by either a white Chevrolet Tahoe or GMC Yukon while he was walking on foot on January 13, according to police.

The Desert Sun newspaper reports that the drummer’s body was found by the side of Date Palm Road in Cathedral City at 11.45pm (PST).

Kirst‘s brother, Whitey, who also played guitar with him for Iggy Pop, said he believed he “just went to the store to get a pack of cigarettes” before his death.

Police have asked for potential witnesses to come forward and help identify the vehicle that hit Kirst.

As well as playing on Pop‘s albums ‘Beat ‘Em Up’ (2001) and ‘Skull Ring’ (2003), Kirst played in alternative rockers The Nymphs from 1985 until 1992.
