And he has also spoken to NMEHIPHOP about his acting career and his forthcoming movie, co-starring Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke.
The promo will be co-directed by hip hop video supremo Hype Williams, the man behind some of the most notable videos from artists such as Busta Rhymes and Missy Elliott, though Ja came up with the treatment himself.
“I set the video in jail,” he said. “The storyline is about a woman missing her man when he’s locked up, and I think a lot of women can relate to that. Definitely, it’s just a real situation. It’s basically about pain, it’s a love song. I call it my thug love song, you know. I wanted to express my inner feelings with the record, in a way where everybody can feel me.”
Ja also revealed he has been busy with his acting career.
“I just finished doing a couple of films,” he explained. “‘Fast and Furious’ with Vin Diesel will be out in June, and ‘Crime Partners’, starring Snoop and Ice T, which will be out soon. I’m about to start shooting another one, ‘Training Day’ with Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke. So I’m trying to stay busy! ‘Training Day’ is about crooked cops – it’s good the whole force is crooked!”
