The series of intimate gigs returns nationwide and will help uncover the best small venues in Britain

Jack Rocks is back for a fifth consecutive year, taking the series of intimate gigs nationwide.

Toy, Bo Ningen, Carl Barât And The Jackals, Tom Vek and Hooton Tennis Club are among the acts taking part this year, as the gig series, which plants established names and up-and-coming stars in tiny venues, goes nationwide.

Last year’s Jack Rocks took place in London, and saw headline sets from La Roux, Kele, Twin Peaks and Carl Barât And The Jackals, among others. This time around the gigs will take place all over the country, from King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut in Glasgow to Southampton’s Joiners and everywhere in between.

Video, photo and write ups from the shows will be posted on the Jack Rocks & NME hub throughout the series.

The likes of La Roux, Kele, Carl Barât And The Jackals, Twin Peaks, Young Guns and Bloody Knees performed at Jack Rocks gigs last time around.

The campaign to find Britain’s Best Small Venue is also returning for a fifth year, and in the face of venue closures all over the country, is perhaps more vital than ever. Leeds Cockpit, London’s 12 Bar and Madame Jojo’s and Manchester’s Roadhouse have all vanished in the past 12 months, with countless others threatened with the same.

Jack Rocks will be teaming up with small venues across the country to highlight their importance – places where bands can learn their craft and build up fan bases.

Last year Norwich Arts Centre took the crown, and hosted a victory gig with The Maccabees to celebrate. Where will the party of the year be this year?

There’ll also be exclusive live videos posted at NME.com/JackRocks, so even if you can’t make it to the show you can still be a part of it. If you go there now you can see amazing footage of The Rifles’ show at London’s Garage on September 12.
