Jack White to throw ceremonial first pitch at Detroit Tigers game

Musician invited by local baseball team to start game against Chicago White Sox on July 29

Jack White will throw the ceremonial first pitch at the Detroit Tigers baseball match on Tuesday night (July 29).

The news of White’s involvement in the game against Chicago White Sox at the Tigers’ Comerica Park was revealed via the Third Man Records Twitter account last night. White will also be bringing the Third Man Rolling Record Store to the Detroit Tigers game.

White will be hoping to avoid a fate similar to that of 50 Cent earlier this year, who was left embarrassed after a pitch of his at a New York Mets game was described as “one of the worst first pitches ever”.

Earlier this week the singer announced that Third Man will be launching its own literary publishing arm. Third Man Books’ first commercially available release will be Language Lessons: Volume I, which comprises a 321-page book of poetry and prose as well as two vinyl LPs of “jazz, psychdelic-punk, poetry, blues and pop” and five “frameable” poems. The package will be released in a hard-case clothbound sleeve and is available to buy from August 5.

Jack White embarks on a three-date tour of the UK this November playing at:

Leeds First Direct Arena (November 17)
Glasgow SSE Hydro Arena (18)
London O2 Arena (19)
