Singer continues his ongoing criticism of One Direction
Bugg has repeatedly criticised the band before and was asked to air his opinions once again during an interview with a US radio station. The Sun quotes Bugg as having said that he finds the group “suspicious”, saying: “I find that there’s too much choreography going on to be able to sing live as well, which is always quite suspicious in my eyes.” The singer also said that he would not be following in the footsteps of Harry Styles in becoming the next famous face to get into a relationship with Taylor Swift. Quizzed on the country-pop singer, Bugg is reported to have shook his head and said: “She’s got no chance.”
The fractious relationship between Bugg and One direction has seen insults traded both ways, though Bugg has been far more vocal. Speaking at the NME Awards earlier this year, he said: “I don’t know how they can really be considered a band, though to be honest. I’m not too sure. I think the more I play on it, it’ll wind them up.” He added: “They’re there to look good. Music-wise? I assume they don’t really have a clue. We’ll just see. They might do. Probably the ugliest one is the best singer. He might know a couple of chords.” Louis Tomlinson of One direction later called Bugg out on Twitter, asking him directly if he thought criticising the boyband “made him more indie”.
Jake Bugg will tour the UK later this year, playing shows at Doncaster Dome (November 9), Birmingham O2 Academy (10), Blackpool Empress Ballroom (12) and Manchester O2 Apollo (13). The tour will kick off at Birmingham BIC on October 19 and include a night at London’s O2 Academy Brixton, on October 23.
