DAMIEN HIRST JOINS AID EFFORT

Seems everyone wants to be part of it...

BAND AID 3 organisers have enlisted the help of controversial artist DAMIEN HIRST to design the artwork for the single.

The 2004 version of the ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’ is expected to hit the Number One spot this Yuletide.

Set for release on November 29, the single will hit the shops just 15 days after being recorded.

A spokesman said of Hirst’s involvement: “Obviously the line-up for this new recording is a very contemporary line-up, so we felt we wanted to go to a contemporary artist.”

“He welcomed it and immediately said ‘Yes’. Obviously, he’s doing it all for nothing and I would imagine the piece of artwork will become an immense fundraiser for the Band Aid Trust.”

Bands confirmed for the re-recording are Sugababes, Robbie Williams ¸ Dido’ Justin Hawkins, Coldplay’s Chris Martin, Morcheeba, Travis’ Fran Healy, Beverly Knight, Snow Patrol, Supergrass’ Danny Goffey, [/a]’s Skye Edwards, and organiser and Midge Ure.

A spokesman has said that Oasis’ Noel Gallagher and Blur’s Damon Albarn will definitely not be taking part in the charity single, reports the BBC.

Organisers are still waiting to hear from [a] and [a][/a].

Proceeds from the single will help famine relief in the Dafur region of Sudan.
