Singer collaborates with Erykah Badu on first track from new album 'The Electric Lady'
Janelle Monae has revealed her new single ‘QUEEN’. Scroll down to hear the song now.
The track, which features Erykah Badu, is the first song to be taken from her new album ‘The Electric Lady’. Monae, who released her debut studio album ‘The ArchAndroid’ in 2010, previously said she had plans to release two albums in 2012 but neither materialised. At the time, she said: “I am happy to be here and see my family, and I am eager to get back into the studio and work on finishing my album. I stopped touring so I could finish the album. Actually, I plan on releasing two albums next year.”
She also previously promised that her new album would see her move up “another level” and would boast “very strong concepts and bigger ideas”.
Speaking about her new single, Monáe said that the collaboration with Badu came about following conversations between the two singers. “This song is inspired by private conversations she and I have had and continue to have,” Monáe told Billboard. “She’s a great friend to me; she’s like a big sister and it’s a song about private dialogue that she and I have had.”
Meanwhile, Miles Kane has recently revealed that he would love to record a duet with Monáe. Speaking to NME, Kane responded to a question about who he would most like to work with by replying: “I’d love to do a duet with that bird Janelle Monae, I’d love to make a great two-and-a-half minute pop song with her. I haven’t put the feelers out, but I could see us working well together.”
