Jarvis Cocker, Echo And The Bunnymen to kick off SXSW 2009

Plus Late Of The Pier, Juliet Lewis to play on Day One

Echo And The Bunnymen, Jarvis Cocker Glasvegas, Late Of The Pier and The Bronx are among the acts who are set to play live on the first day of the South By Southwest festival which kicks off in Austin, Texas today (March 18).

Ian McCulloch‘s band will play their first SXSW show of the week, playing tonight at 12:30am (CMT) at Emo’s Main Room. Fellow black-clad doom-merchants Glasvegas will play at 11:40pm at Vice.

Jarvis Cocker is set for an earlier start – not playing live but making a speech about lyrics, titled ‘Saying The Unsayable’, at the Austin Convention Centre.

Hollywood actress-turned-rocker Juliette Lewis is set to play a show with her new band, The New Romantiques, at Emo’s Main Room at 11:30pm.

Other highlights of the schedule today include Rolo Tomassi at The Peacock at 5:15pm, Late Of The Pier at 10:20pm at La Zona Rosa, Telepathe at Ms Bea’s at 9:15pm and The Bronx at 1am at Red 7 Patio.
