JAY-Z, NAS and Q-TIP are among the artists set to feature on ‘EAST COAST MIX 1’, a forthcoming DVD/VHS documentary talking to artists responsible for hiphop and rap, in which they explain what the music means to them, NME.COM can reveal.

Nas, his brother Jungle and a friend lead a tour through the Queensbridge Housing Projects, where they grew up. In the film, Nas relates stories about his struggles growing up, from the death of his friend Ill Will to his success as a rapper.

Jay-Z talks through his own rise from his recording studio, while Q-Tip plays basketball in his favourite park and considers what sets him apart as an influence.

The film has been directed by Oscar-nominated documentary maker Peter Spirer. It will be released on July 2.
