Beyonce, Kelly Rowland and Gladiator star Russell Crowe were among the specially invited guests to the first public playback of Jay-Z and Kanye West‘s joint album ‘Watch The Throne’ on Monday (August 1).

The rappers, who have opted to be known collectively as The Throne, recorded the album across the world, with sessions taking place in Bath, New York, Los Angeles and at Russell Crowe‘s house in Australia.

The album was unveiled in New York‘s planetarium to a specially invited audience, with Kelly Rowland, Busta Rhymes and indie outfit Grizzly Bear, as well as Jay-Z‘s wife Beyonce among those who heard it alongside invited media.

The duo will release the album on August 8, with only current single ‘Otis’, which samples ‘Try A Little Tenderness’, made famous by legendary soul singer Otis Redding, available to hear publicly thus far.

The rappers were forced to put their autumn US tour back by over a month, but have denied that this is due to a widely reported disagreement over how they will present ‘Watch The Throne’ live.
