Peter Andre: ‘Jay Z told me I can sing’

'Mysterious Girl' singer says he spent time in the recording studio with Jay Z in the late '90s

Peter Andre has said Jay-Z praised his vocals after they spent time in the recording studio together in the late ’90s.

According to Andre, Jay Z sat in on his recording session with Wyclef Jean and Pras Michel from The Fugees, though the ‘Mysterious Girl’ singer never actually collaborated with the rapper.

“He will never remember but the words he said to me, which meant more than anything, were, ‘You can sing,'” Andre told Heat. “And that meant so much from someone like him because I was doing more soul-based stuff then.”

Continuing, Andre admitted that when he met Jay Z, he actually had no idea who the rapper was.

“I have to be honest, at the time I didn’t know who he was because it was just before ‘Hard Knock Life’ was released. He played us the whole album and I was thinking, ‘This is really good’. Then I didn’t think any more of it until it became so huge worldwide,” Andre said.

Peter Andre released two albums last year, a collection of swing covers called ‘Come Fly With Me’ and the festive LP ‘White Christmas’. In December he revealed that he has a role in Ricky Gervais’ upcoming David Brent movie Life On The Road.
