Rapper references Beyonce’s album and fight with Solange in new verse
Jay Z features on a remix of the pair’s US hit ‘All The Way Up’ and has chosen the track to make his first public reference to ‘Lemonade’ – which appears to be about marital problems between the pair.
However, Jay Z’s verse doesn’t give his side of the story. Instead, it states how financially lucrative Beyonce’s album has been.
On the track which can be heard here, Jay raps: “You know you made it when the fact your marriage made it is worth millions/Lemonade is… a popular drink and it still is.”
Later on in the remix, Jay raps “We never gonna let the elevator take ‘em down,” a reference to the fight he had with Beyonce’s sister Solange Knowles, who attacked Jay in a Las Vegas elevator in May 2014. It’s believed Knowles attacked Jay over the alleged infidelity which Beyonce sings about in ‘Lemonade’.
Inevitably, Jay Z’s remix for Fat Tony And Remy is only available on Tidal – the streaming service he co-owns and which was the exclusive platform for ‘Lemonade’ for 48 hours on its release in April.
Since the release of ‘Lemonade’, Beyonce has appeared to publicly support her husband. At a concert in Minnesota on Monday – which was declared Beyonce Day by the state of Minnesota – she pointedly stated that her favourite song on ‘Lemonade’ is its make-up ballad ‘All Night’.
It was also reported recently that Jay Z and Beyonce have finished a joint album which the couple are supposedly using to discuss the strength of their marriage and the fallout from ‘Lemonade’. That too is said to be a Tidal-only exclusive release.
