Jay Z launches £485 a bottle champagne line

Only 3,000 bottles will be produced

Jay Z has unveiled his first champagne line, a bottle of which will set you back $760 (£485). The new bubbly is currently available to pre-order.

The rapper’s all-pinot Armand de Brignac champagne is aged a minimum of five years and is purely comprised of 100 percent Pinot Noir from Montagne de Reims, Chigny-les-Roses and other acclaimed villages such Bouzy, Verzy, and Verzenay. According to Bloomberg, only 3,000 bottles will be produced.

While Jay might be swimming in champagne right now, in May he attracted heat from utility company Denver Water, who took offense to comments made by the artist as he defended his oft-criticised streaming service Tidal. “Water is free. Music is $6 but no one wants to pay for music,” Jay said. “You can drink water free out of the tap and it’s good water. But they’re OK paying for it. It’s just the mindset now.”

In an open letter posted on the Denver Water blog, company executive Steve Snyder responded by writing, “Recently, you made a comparison about water and music. And since water is my business, I have to say, ‘Stick to your own business, man!’

“This isn’t meant to state the obvious fact that some people can’t pay their water bills, so water must not be free. But your comments bring up the issue of how people value water – an issue our industry struggles with all the time.”
