Jay-Z and Kanye West to perform at MTV VMAs tonight?

Rap superstars rumoured to be appearing at Los Angeles awards ceremony

Jay-Z and Kanye West are rumoured to be surprise guests at tonight’s (August 28) MTV VMAs.

The rap superstars, who teamed up for new album ‘Watch The Throne’, are thought to be opening the show. News of the secret performance has leaked after an eagle-eyed journalist spotted that the seating plan at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles – where the event will kick off at 9pm (5am UK time) – featured no place cards for the two artists.

According to E! Online, most MTV production crew are unaware of the pair’s scheduled performance.

It’s not yet known whether Beyoncé will join them. The Glastonbury headliner, and wife of Jay-Z, features on ‘Lift Off’ from ‘Watch The Throne’, and will also be in attendance this evening at the Los Angeles awards ceremony.

Lady Gaga, Adele, Chris Brown and Young The Giant have already been announced as performers, while there will also be a tribute to Britney Spears and the late Amy Winehouse, led by Tony Bennett.

The legendary crooner teamed up with Winehouse on his forthcoming ‘Duets II’ album, and it’s expected Lady Gaga and Adele, whose ‘Rolling In The Deep’ is nominated for seven awards, will sing with him.

Lil Wayne will also perform on the eve of the release of his new album ‘Tha Carter IV’, which hits shelves on August 29.

He told MTV News: “Looking forward to performing on the show, and having ‘Tha Carter IV’ drop the same week.”
